Mardan is a city and headquarters of Mardan District in the Khyber pukhtoonkhwa Province, Pukhtunkhwa of Pakistan, Headquarter of Yousafzai tribe,the second largest populated city of NWFP. It was part of the ancient Gandhara Civilization. Most of its land is agricultural. It has one of the world’s best irrigation systems, which was laid down by the British government during British Rule of the subcontinent (1857–1947). There are still remains of the Gandhara Civilization, scattered in different areas of Mardan.
In small town and rural areas of Pakistan, specially in rural areas of Khyber Pukhtoonkhwa women are deprived and they do not get their basic rights. Girls schools and colleges are being destroyed by Taliban. Elders in families also do not like girls to study. Pakistani Taliban fighters want to shutdown every girls school and college. They want to shutdown girls education altogether.
